Director of Research and Development

Durham, NC

Help us Feed the World! This is not just a buzzword but a passion and a mission.  We are looking for a Director of Research and Development to help us further this cause.  This opening is the result of our growth!

The primary focus of this position is to plan, organize and direct the research operations, quality, and analytical labs to provide optimal results.  This role will be responsible for managing and directing our research and development programs.  We anticipate you will rely upon extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish these goals.

Responsibilities & Principal Activities:

The Senior Director of Research & Development must have a solid scientific background and be a hands on manager who combines tactical and strategic thinking towards creating a continuous improvement culture with the ideal being a combination of:

  • Guiding, directing, and motivating subordinates including implementation of new procedures, policies, or programs.
  • Responsibilities also include: managing scientific operations, conducting standardized quantitative laboratory analyses, writing technical papers and proposal grants, developing new products based on scientific research results, experimental design.
  • In this role the use of scientific research methodology and the adherence to safety procedures is required. It is necessary for the employee to think creatively.
  • Directing maintaining and enhancing scientific standards, product development.
  • Lead and ensure that our business is carried out in accordance with our values and vision
  • Promoting and facilitating leading edge research
  • Create and maintain an environment that is conducive to intellectual and research growth.
  • To be responsible for facilitating and reporting operational metrics at monthly, quarterly and annual business reviews.
  • Assist in the development and execution of an annual operating plan
  • Support, mentor and train associates in a culture of open, respectful communication and open dialog to facilitate an innovative culture and world class facility
  • Responsible for planning and assisting in the design and execution of various continuous improvement events targeted toward improving the business’s performance by constantly eliminating waste, optimizing processes, and increasing productivity.
  • To provide leadership / mentoring / training and knowledge sharing to all levels of the organization on the use and practice of good manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies and tools towards striving for a continuous improvement culture.
  • Assist in the development and execution of a 3 year strategic plan and directionEducation / Qualifications / Background Requirements:
  • PhD in Biochemistry, biotechnology, or molecular biology. Additional training in nutrition a plus.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of related experience
  • 3-5 years prior technical management of a scientific team required.
  • Thorough knowledge with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proven background of new product development
  • Candidate must be willing to travel as required.


Director of Finance

Durham, NC

The Director of Finance is responsible for financial planning, financial record-keeping, financial reporting, and providing operational support to the organization. The Director of Finance supervises the finance unit and is the chief financial spokesperson for the organization. This individual will assist the executive staff on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to budget generation and management, cost benefit analysis, forecasting needs and the securing of new funding.This individual will be accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of the company, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve and grow company assets and report accurate financial results.

The Director of Finance should have a master’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a company or division of a corporation with strong preference for experience in international finance, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.  This individual should have experience working closely with an executive team, and have a high level of written and oral communication skills.  This individual should also have experience working in a manufacturing company. Preference will be given to candidates with an MBA in Finance and the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations. Knowledge of GAAP versus IFRS / TFRS is a plus. Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a plus.  Experience in the life sciences sector is also a plus.


QA Intern, Part-time

Apex, NC

BioResource International, a leading enzyme researcher and manufacturer based in Durham, NC, is seeking a part-time employee/intern to assist in the Quality Department at our Apex manufacturing facility.  The desired candidate will have up to 1 year of experience working in a lab as well as superior attention to detail. The position will be responsible for accurate measurements related to our scientific manufacturing operations, as well as additional laboratory and bench-based operations as assigned. Previous laboratory experience a plus.

Enrollment in a degree program with focus in biology, biochemistry or a related lab science; or professional certifications in associated technologies. 1 year prior lab science experience is preferred but not required. Strong attention to detail. The ability to lift 20 pounds regularly as well as the ability to see, hear, speak and work in a high allergen environment.
